Server

NewsPHP was developed and beta-tested on various Linux servers running:

Apache (1.3.x and up).
Enabled mod_rewrite for Apache is an advantage. By default, NewsPHP passes path arguments to itself via its internally generated URLs. This results in URLs that look like the following: "http://www.example.com/?x=y". This can make URLs hard to read and it also stops many search engines, like Google, from indexing the pages with these URLs. You can tell NewsPHP to use "clean URLs", eliminating the "?x=" in internal URLs. Note that this works only for Apache servers which have the LoadModule rewrite_module configured and mod_rewrite enabled in httpd.conf configuration file.
MySQL database (3.x and up).
PHP scripting (4.2 and up). PHP can be run as an Apache module or PHP-as-CGI.
Installed GD Library extension is an advantage. You can tell NewsPHP to use "Resize Images [Thumbnails]" to resize images and reduce size. It helps to increase website performance, reduce website size and load time.
Zend optimizer (2.6 and up).
The Zend Optimizer is a free application that runs the files encoded by the Zend Guard, while enhancing the performance of PHP applications.

Please check with your host if you are unsure about any of these requirements before purchasing.

Browser

In order to view NewsPHP you should be using a modern browser with support modern DOM scripting (including XMLHTTPRequest) with good support for CSS 2. Safari, Opera or Firefox, all free, are highly recommended. NewsPHP 5 introduces full support for Internet Explorer PC.
